DPM: EXHIBIT A is an evening exhibition which explores societies differing opinions on street art: Art or vandalism, creative expression or destruction of private property? The irony, however, is that although museums and galleries are celebrating street art, its provocateurs are still being prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Five members of the UK DPM graffiti crew have been convicted and sentenced for criminal damage and the first time in the history of graffiti culture, on a charge of conspiracy to criminal damage. On the same day of their sentencing in London, England on July 11th, the Tate Modern is exhibiting the first public museum display of acclaimed street art.
On Monday, August 4th Anonymous Gallery will showcase enlarged photographs of artwork produced by convicted members of DPM, along with copies of the charges held against them. The photographs will be available for sale in editions of 50. Proceeds will go to the artists and to their families. |
